Why Is Diet Important?
The body is in constant need of proper nutrition each and every day to perform its proper functions. Each vitamin and mineral plays a role in how your body works and how well it works. There are essential nutrients everyone needs in their diet: carbohydrates, protein, fat, vitamins, minerals, and water. Protein helps rebuild your tissues and muscles. Carbohydrates provide you energy throughout the day. Water maintains homeostasis in the body, nourishes tissues, and transports nutrients to cells. The American diet is severely lacking in proper nutrients due to fast food and on-the-go options that are quick and easy, but lack nutrition. That lack of nutrition is leading to an obesity epidemic and many health problems that are on the rise.
A diet full of all the nutrients you need each day can help your body function properly and has been proven to reduce your risk for diseases, infections, and more. If you are not sure how your diet is, you can receive a nutritional assessment at our office today. We can help you to know what nutrients your body lacks and provide you guidance to get healthier.
What About Exercise?
The American Heart Association recommends that each person receives at least 150 minutes of exercise each week. That exercise can be split up into 5 days of 30 minutes of exercise or you can break up your workouts throughout the day. Staying physically active can help reduce your risk for chronic conditions such as heart disease, stroke, seizures, obesity, diabetes, and more. If you could reduce your risk for these conditions by taking just a few minutes out of your day to be active, would you do it?
If you’re not currently getting enough exercise, we recommend adding a little bit of it into your schedule every day, even if it’s just here and there. Even if you are overweight, get some exercise in your day! A study by Harvard Medical School found that even overweight or obese people who engage in physical activity can extend their lives by up to 4 years. A few minutes a day is worth your time to live years longer!
Vibration Therapy
Sometimes ailments or injuries prevent people from being able to exercise like they want or need to. There are always options for keeping your body in shape when you are not able to do much. Vibration therapy is perfect for patients who are elderly, who have disabilities, ailments, chronic conditions and more. This therapy consists of a vibrating machine that patients use to work their muscles gently, yet effectively. When on the machine, countless vibrations are sent throughout the body, causing the muscles to contract and relax dozens of times per second. These contractions help speed up circulation all over the body, helping nutrients to flow to all the muscles and tissues. This same process happens with exercise, yet with vibration therapy, the patient receives a workout in only 7 minutes. This therapy helps to keep the muscles strong and intact.
Staying Healthy Can Be Easy
Besides vibration therapy, there is also balance training to help keep your body in proper alignment and your posture correct. A proper posture can help keep the body healthy and can distribute pressure and tension evenly when you exercise or move. There are many other options for staying healthy:
- Physical therapy to rehabilitate the body after an injury has occured
- Chiropractic care to align the spine and back
- Meditation each day to relieve stress and tension
- Drinking plenty of water each day to flush toxins out of the body and nourish tissues
- Getting proper rest each night to ensure that the body has time to repair itself after each day
- Get fresh air each day and a few minutes in the sun to soak up some vitamin D
- Social activities to interact with others and keep a strong mind
There are many other ideas we could add to this list, but you get the picture. Incorporate one or more of these easy options into each day to feel healthier.
